Calculate Inflation Pressure for Packer tests - Straddle packer tests / Hydrologic Investigation

This tool would help you determine the amount of PACKER INFLATION pressure required at various depths to properly conduct PACKER tests. Proper seal is of vital importance in hydrologic tests. There are multiple variable that determines the pressure you should use. This tool is for INJECTION TEST with WATER and NOT for GROUTING.

Required input:

G = Inflation Pressure at Gauge (PSI)
Dp = Depth to top of PACKER (in Feet)
Dw = Depth to static water level in well / borehole (in Feet)
Upr= Unconfined Packer Pressure rating for the well size (PSI)
Pp= injection pump pressure.

Formula that you need to use to calculate INFLATION PACKER PRESSURE

FORMULA 1: G= [Dp*.43 + Upr + Pp]*1.1 (widely used to calculated inflation pressure)
FORMULA 2: MAX PRESSURE on PACKER= Upr + (Dp-Dw)*.43 (often OVERLOOKED while using equation 1)

G = Inflation Pressure at Gauge (PSI): This is what you need to determine.
Input the required parameters in the given fields below. I added little explanation for what they are.

Dp = Depth to top of PACKER (in Feet): - This is variable; for example, if you are testing a zone from 800-810 feet; depth to top of packer would be 800 feet.
Dw = Depth to static water level in well / borehole (in Feet): - This is also variable and determine in you are in saturated / unsaturated zone. In valley the water level is usually very close to surface.
Upr= Unconfined Packer Pressure rating for the well size (PSI): - This is specific to the manufacturing conmany. For BIMBAR or GEOPRO packers, 2-3"- 525 PSI is max UNCONFIED PACKER RATING.This is what most commonly used by L.J. Huges Drilling company in Appalachian Coal Fields.
Pp= injection pump pressure: - In theory you would like to apply a pressure which is equal to Dp*.43. However, you many not need that much injection pressure. Reduce it by half to stay within the mazimum inflation pressure required for the packers. How much injection pressure you need is not a constant number. In a fractured zone 400 feet deep, you may only need 50 PSI to properly conduct the test. In other cases you may have to use the maximum to make sure the the zone you are testing is truly "no intake" zone.
