Patriot Coal resumes operation at the Federal No. 2 mine

March 5 (Coal Geology: Patriot coal closed their Federal No. 2 mine last month due to high level of methane in an abandoned area of the mine. After the Sago mine explosion in 2006, MSHA adopted a new set of mine safety rules to avoid accidents. Improved ventilation plan by Patriot coal in now approved by MSHA. There are 500 people employed at Patriot’s Federal No. 2 mine.
